Pride Flag: The original Pride Flag was created by Gilbert Baker, an openly gay activist from Kansas, and was flown for the first time in 1978 at the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade. Pride parades and festivals later erupted throughout the world, and many countries today party the entire month of June, designated as Pride Month, in support of same-sex marriage and LGBTQ rights. The Stonewall Riots also led to the first gay pride marches, which took place a year later in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago. While many of the riots were violent and spontaneously planned, the uprising led to reforms and global awareness of human rights for the LGBTQ community.
